Biographical note: 
Carlos Azevedo is a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Research in Higher Education Policies (CIPES) in Portugal and a visiting fellow at the Open University Business School in the United Kingdom, where he completed his PhD in 2022. Carlos’ research focuses on marketised higher education systems and their impact on students’ discourses and practices (his monograph on students’ discourses and practices in marketised higher education systems will be published by Routledge in 2025), student activism, and academic freedom. Carlos has presented his research at several international conferences, such as EGOS and Scuola Democratica. Carlos co-curates with Ronald Hartz, a scholar based in German academia, a webinar series on the theme of Academic Freedom Under Attack (https://academicfreedomunderattack.com). Carlos is a member of the executive committee of the Council for Defence of British Universities (https://cdbu.org.uk). He is also a member of the British Sociological Association. Before joining academia to pursue his doctorate, Carlos worked as a qualified lawyer and a contract and project manager in Portugal and abroad.
